Been slack on the posting, Facebook took over with the pictures!

A few weeks ago we had the IWA Wave Final Round in Brandon Bay.  There was no wind on Saturday but I had a great day stand up paddling on a 9’0 Naish Hokua with Mikey. It was really beautiful to be out in blue water with overhead high waves and sun.

On Sunday it was good and windy with some nice swell. After meeting at Jamie Knox’s shop the convoy moved to Hell’s Gate, an offshore reef at the top of the bay. I took my 3.9 Fly and Quatro 69KT and threw in 8cm fronties and 12 back K4 fins. The waves were super hollow and the reef got really shallow. Throughout the heats I took some risks and got punished a few times but it paid off in the end, getting to the final and throwing in an aerial to secure 3rd. Rob Jones was showing his knowledge and claimed 1st, Mikey second and Oisin 4th. Katie McAnena was first lady and was ripping, breaking a few men’s egos like always. The level was really high and there was a few more people my age which was great to see!! Thank you very much to everyone who was involved in organising the event, a special thanks to Jamie Knox and Duncan Coombs for making sure we got a full round in.

So now the year is close to an end, and I am Irish Youth Champion in Waves, Slalom, and Speed(I think!).I learnt to backloop, pushloop, taka, goiter, and landed a double loop. I wish I could get out during this winter more, but after yesterdays venture out in Dollymount my hands swelled up to a large size and were really sore, I think only a few short hours can be managed at a time. However, on Monday the largest wave was recorded in Donegal. Exciting times are ahead.

Long time no see! Have been getting out quite a lot so all happy!

The Surfdock Wave event was great, we had some really good conditions at Elly Beach.

Unfortuately didn’t do as well as I had hoped to do, but it was my first time properly jumping on port tack and I landed a few backies and front loops in my heats.

Just had a really good day at a beach just down from my school, some nice waves. I’ve actually almost learned goitas in onshore, so i’m going full power in onshore all the time now. Was very full power on my 3.9 Fly2. They are a little different from last year, softer and lighter but still all the power you need.

So I´ve had two sessions full power on my 3.2 Fly and quad. Yesterday was pretty good with some head to logo high waves. Today looks a bit light, maybe 4.2!! swell is good aswell, having a great time here in fuerteventura.

Can’t wait for 2 weeks of this…

Heading out to Fuerteventura on Thursday,  and the forecast is looking great ! I will keep everybody updated!

K4 Fins

Thanks Steve:)

Will be using 15cm Twins, 14, 13, 12 cm rears and 6 and 8 quad fins. Plenty of variety.

So far, there sweet.

Magheroarty

Two days after i came back from Fuerte I scored a great day in Magheroarty.

4.0 Combat with 12cm K4 rears in my Quad. Epic…
Had a great week in Fuerteventura last week.. Was really cool to see all the pro’s I look up most days on the internet aswell. there was always swell so it was just a matter of choosing where the wind would be best. Got a good various amount of conditions in,bit higher than head high in entubadera on the first day, then head high in flag, a day at a secret spot, a reef near where I was staying ( nobody was out there ever so don’t know if its got a name) and a day of jumping in Punta Blanca with Steve Gibson and crew.
It was great to have a few Irish guys there (Colin, Paul and Mikey) so we could see who was going where and had a few familiar faces about.

This was the day at the reef, pretty big at times

bit of a jump in Punta

light winds and strong rip made it impossible to get out at the secret location;)

Not mentioning my dodgy backloop, there was a good lot of mast high white water out the back. Got nailed a few times because there was a strong rip in the middle!

The board was perfect size for all the conditions, 69 KT Quattro Quad. Great for onshore to offshore for light people.

on the smaller inside reef break near the BahiaAzul where I was staying.

Love the Neilpryde Fly2. Great for lightness with power on switch.
Should have more pictures on my Facebook (Ryan O’Leary), they are all quite slow to upload to
the blog.
Also had a great day up in Magheroarty, more pictures to come!
